An access log features a record of all the files which have been requested by the visitors while surfing around your website. The list is thorough, so if you have a page with 2 embedded images, for example, all of the three files will be in the log, not only the page. An access log normally features the date, the OS, the web browser and the IP address for each file in human-readable form, so you can get a more complete picture about the hottest files on your site. The log, which is also typically named "raw data", is an addition to the web statistics that you normally get with a hosting account, not a replacement. One example why you may require this kind of a log is if you wish to use some software on your PC to prepare a report about the website’s performance, but you do not want to use the regular graphs and tables that come with the server-generated website stats.

Access Log Manager in Cloud Website Hosting

Our in-house built Hepsia CP includes a section focused on various logs and the access logs are one of them. Once you sign in to your cloud website hosting account and navigate to this section, you'll find a list of all the domain names and subdomains that you have. All it takes to permit the generation of access logs is to press a button that will be available next to every single domain/subdomain. When the option is enabled, you shall see a download link along with the file size so far, so you will be able to save the file to your personal computer and look at it or process it with some app. Enabling or disabling the logs becomes effective instantly, so if you no longer need one, you could stop it with a mouse click from the same exact section of the CP. You'll still have the ability to access the already generated content by simply clicking on the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, it will not take more than several mouse clicks to enable the generation of access logs by our system if you require them. The function may be enabled from the Hepsia website hosting Control Panel and this could be done individually for every single domain name or subdomain that you have inside your account. When you log in and navigate to the Access/Error Logs section of the Control Panel, you will find a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to each of them. One click shall trigger the log generation and a second one will deactivate it, so you can control this feature with great ease. A Download link inside the same section will enable you to save the compiled content as a text file, that you can then use on your laptop or computer. Even when the logs are deactivated, you shall still be able to download the data that's been previously generated.
